Cooperative Parent Participation

At least one caregiver from each child’s family is committed to being involved in the following ways:

  • One workday at the school from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday

  • One parent education class offered in various formats (zoom, in-person, whole family) every Tuesday evening

  • Attend two Environment Days per year, helping keep our school clean and safe

  • Annual family-friendly fundraising event

  • Committee Participation

SMPCW Committees

One parent from each family joins a committee aligned with their interests. The committee offer parents a venue for working together towards the further their school participation skills and also contribute towards the cooperative effort. You can expect to spend an average of about 1 hour per week on committee duties.

Weekly Workday

8:30am -12:30pm

One caregiver per family will work one morning a week, on a day your child is already attending, and assist the school by…

  • facilitating activities in one of the following areas; the sandbox, art patio, front yard, classrooms, or preparing a healthy and delicious snack

  • conflict resolution between children

  • supervision of area

  • engaging in meaningful discussion with children

  • setup and cleanup of activities

Tuesday Night Meeting

7-9pm

One caregiver attends our weekly Tuesday evening meeting in-person, via zoom or as a whole family gathering such as potlucks or field trips.

Caregivers will learn about typical social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive development of children aged two to five years old. We focus on healthy patterns of separation, the importance of free play, and parenting strategies that support a strong foundation for future learning.

Information gained in these classes will be directly applicable to your workday and family life.

Environmental Days

You will attend two Environment Days per year, helping keep our school clean and safe!

Fundraising

You will participate in fundraising events throughout the school year to help earn money for our school!

  • Participate in your child’s early learning.

  • Learn about yourself as a parent, your child and about early childhood education as well as how vital parents are to the entire school life of their children by observing experienced teachers and other parents working with children.

  • Find and lend support in talking with other parents and trained staff about your child’s growth and development.

  • Expand your parenting skills and get help and support with any parenting and/or family problems as they arise.

  • Gain time alone for your own activities while your child is happy in school.

  • Develop family communication skills and learn more about family dynamics.

  • Develop lasting friendships (with adults and children) in a group of people with varied backgrounds, education, economic circumstances, and ethnicities.
